Great Success the conference and the Tree Planting in Agia Varvara
This year's planting season started with great success with the planting of 700 new saplings in Agia Varvara. Once again the people who gathered moved us with their selfless and genuine interest in our country. Parents with small children, teachers with their students, organized ensembles, and even people with mobility problems, traveled from various parts of Cyprus, on Saturday 14 October in the morning, giving their presence and sending the message to the whole world that everyone together we can save the earth, green our Cyprus and thus give hope to the new generations.
The tree planting was preceded by a conference, in the presence of about 100 people in a community hall, on Climate Change and biodiversity, in which very interesting speeches were heard. The professor at the University of Cyprus, Dr Spyros Sfendourakis, explained with examples how the natural environment is degraded by the wrong intervention of man in it. His report that Cyprus is the number 1 country in the world in water related stress caused a sensation. The Secretary of the Cyprus beekeepers association Mr. Dimitris Panagi spoke about the role of bees as pollinators of nature and explained in a very illustrative way the dangers they face and the need to protect them. The vice-president of the Green Shield Mrs. Maria Theodosiadou presented the topic Agroforestry Systems and explained how the coexistence of forest with agricultural plants is now the most important agricultural innovation in Europe in the 21st century for environmental protection and adaptation to climate change.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to the planning and completion of these two events. The community council of Agia Varvara, Professor Spyros Sfendurakis, the Cyprus Beekeepers Association, the National Agricultural Network, the contractors who adopted seedlings and the hundreds of volunteers who ran to help!
New appointment in Palodia on the 19th of November with 2000 trees. We are expecting you!
